March 2016 News

As a world leader in pneumatics and automation, and owing to the size of its global market share, the launch of SMC Pneumatics in South Africa was a logical and opportunistic move.

“Since opening our doors in South Africa in 2015, we are proud to announce major growth thanks to the team’s tenacity and a clear strategy,” says SMC head of sales, Johan Bester. “In our tough economic climate, companies are fighting for their bottom line and moreover the need for efficient and cost-effective manufacturing solutions is key.”

By subscribing to the Japanese philosophy known as ‘Kaizen’ and with its roots proudly placed in its Japanese heritage, SMC offers high quality solutions whilst keeping costs down thanks to continuous improvement, innovation and streamlined manufacturing processes.

“Over the years, SMC has found new ways of reducing costs while maintaining superior quality and today we use this to our advantage,” adds Bester.

By keeping its finger on the pulse, SMC goes beyond a standard offering to bring customised solutions. Today, over 750 000 product variations exist thanks to three tailored solutions:

• Standard products which have been designed and manufactured due to tried and tested solutions.

• Simple specials: best suited to small manufacturers, Simple Specials assist customers in achieving their ideal situation without the exorbitant R&D costs when having customisations done.

• The X-factor: thanks to innovative software, customers are able to configure parts to exact specification. This made-to-order offering is sold at comparable and affordable prices.

“At SMC we understand that each client’s needs and situation is unique. By keeping our costs low and our processes efficient, we are able to offer tailored solutions at competitive and affordable prices across all industries,” explains Bester.

So, what does 2016 hold in store for SMC? “Innovation, customisation and efficiency remains at the core of what we do. By keeping our internal processes streamlined and relying on decades of experience in the field, we will continue to pave the way to high quality, cost-effective offerings for all our customers,” he concludes.
