Production line control with Buchi NIR spectroscopy
October 2015Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration
Buchi Labortechnik has introduced industrial spectrometers that measure important parameters for controlling, optimising and documenting key parameters such as moisture, fat or protein in real-time. NIR-Online from Buchi will deliver results within seconds, and can be used on moving production lines with applications in liquid processes, granulates or for quality control and sample analysis in laboratory test modules.
Reasons why one can consider NIR spectroscopy in a process are that it is a fast non-destructive analytical method. Almost any kind of sample can be scanned within seconds with minimal or even no preparation at all. NIRS can verify the identity of a sample and quantify multiple chemical and physical properties simultaneously. The commercial benefits of using NIR for both research and quality control applications are researchers can accelerate their experimentation, and QC departments benefit from the ability to analyse hundreds of samples per day - both saving substantial amounts of time and money.
The efficiency of the system lies in the time saving quick-start calibrations and/or auto-calibration module, while maximum information content through measurement of several parameters happens simultaneously. On the production side, the process takes place in real-time through continuous measurement. As the process is automated, the data is collected automatically and unattended, so minimal operator interactions are required. In addition, instant documentation is provided through the automated report generation and auditing function.
