Parker’s integrated Tyre Curing Kit

Technews Industry Guide - Maintenance, Reliability & Asset Optimisation 2015 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

Parker Hannifin has announced the expansion of its SensoControl diagnostic product portfolio with the addition of a Tyre Curing Kit which provides a complete solution to measure and control the vulcanisation process in tyre curing equipment. Comprising two pressure sensors and two pressure switches (with safety level PLd) plus a sensor block, the kit gives highly accurate and dependable performance and is fully compliant with the EN16474 standard that governs safety requirements for tyre curing presses.

Parker’s block is an integrated solution supporting the compact arrangement of the sensors and switches. The block also features venting and a water seal in its design. The switches support safe operation of the vulcanisation press with antivalent switching outputs and fixed switching points with high point accuracy. The sensors meanwhile provide regulation for the vulcanisation process with high resolution measurements and temperature resistance to 125°C.

The effective vulcanisation of tyres is controlled by temperature and time. The energy required for the process is principally in the form of regulated, saturated steam. The accuracy of pressure measurements is crucial in determining the quality of the finished tyre. Although the sensors and switches measure and control relatively low pressures, they have high pressure resistance (up to 40 Bar), which enables them to endure the high full system pressures to which they are exposed during the vulcanisation cycle. During the shaping and inflation process, the sensors ensure quality and repeatability by not only exhibiting high resolution and high pressure resistance, but also a small time constant which is necessary due to the highly dynamic nature of the shaping process.
