SKF bearing remanufacture increases equipment service life

May 2015 News

Bearing technology and knowledge engineering specialist SKF South Africa’s bearing remanufacture delivered substantial time and cost savings for a key OEM customer in the mineral processing industry.

When SKF was requested to replace the crusher bearings during the repair of the company’s crusher rolls, it instead suggested the remanufacture of the bearings as a more cost effective solution. The customer sent the bearings to SKF’s Bearing Centre for inspection to determine their suitability for remanufacturing.

Established in 2008 at SKF’s Boksburg facility, the Bearing Remanufacturing Centre remanufactures bearings to OEM specification. Following a close and detailed inspection, SKF concluded that it would be able to remanufacture these particular crusher bearings and in so doing, provide the customer with a number of important cost and time saving benefits.

In addition to extending the customer’s equipment service life, SKF also helped to improve uptime by avoiding unplanned breakdowns. Furthermore, there was a saving on capital expenditure as OEM-quality remanufactured bearings are substantially more affordable than new replacement ones.

Finally, remanufacturing enabled the supply of spare bearings to be used as and when required. As a critical OEM account customer for SKF, it remains the company’s core focus to maintain the relationship through continued provision of solid and sustainable solutions that move businesses forward.
