Tectra completes Sun Coast Casino installation in record time
March 2015
News
Tectra Automation was recently contracted to design and manufacture extrusions to Sun Coast Casino’s renowned seven square metre video wall used for digital signage. The installation, with an expected timeline of a week, took the linear assembly technologists just two days to complete.
The video wall comprises of 16 premium 46” LFD screens. In order to house these, Tectra designed a variety of extruded components including 40 x 40 and 80 x 80 profiles. In addition to the extrusions, existing proprietary mechanical hardware had to be assembled with extreme precision to ensure the screens were spaced no more than half a millimetre apart.
“There must be only the smallest of gaps between the screens,” says Greg Calder product manager linear motion & assembly technologies at Tectra Automation. “If they rest on each other, there is a high risk of failure as the screens can suffer from a phenomenon known ‘screen compression’ which results in complete failure of the screen. In addition, if the screens are not perfectly aligned then reading text messages or displaying images becomes almost impossible as the alignment ‘jumps’ across planes.”
Tectra Automation’s experience in linear assembly technology enabled it to design and supply the components for the entire cavity within a very tight timeframe.
“Previously, the wall was made out of steel, which required personnel with extensive expertise for installation,” comments Calder. “In moving over to the extrusions, we were able to supply a product that needed far fewer people to install and an easier way to adjust the screens if necessary.
“More than that, the extrusions reduced the installation time by more than 70 percent, and considering that the installers could only access the Casino after 9 pm, it is a remarkable feat that the team completed this project in just two days,” concludes Calder.
