The Mitech steam conditioning valve is a modular system which can contain a combination of cavitation control steam atomising de-superheater nozzles.
The design incorporates an angle-style body that allows for substantial differences in inlet and outlet, both in terms of size and pressure rating. It is also primarily designed to incorporate the Mitech twister trim, flowing from the inside outwards for maximum efficiency of space utilisation. The body is further designed to have a large annulus around the stack, such that even relatively high trim exit velocities cannot cause significant erosion damage to the body. However, the plug configuration is such as to give the best possible shut-off with the smallest possible actuator.
Furthermore, the plug is guided by the trim, and the trim and plug are designed to have a relatively long stroke, thereby maximising the turndown of the system.
The de-superheater nozzle is fitted to the centre of the valve outlet in an area of highly turbulent flow, to minimise the risk of water impinging on either the valve body or downstream pipework.
The moment the valve is cracked open, steam is introduced to the de-superheater nozzle at full upstream pressure, in order to maximise the atomisation of the cooling water. The water supply to the de-superheater is arranged in such a way that the valve body is not in contact with the cooling water, thereby removing the risk of thermal cracking caused by severe temperature gradients. In fact the only component that is simultaneously in contact with both water and steam is the de-superheater nozzle itself.
