Comms converters for Namibian reservoir

Advantech's ADAM-4520 converters are being used in a Namibian reservoir for interfacing between the various communication radios, which relay technical information to the various stations. The interfacing allows for full duplex 4800-baud radio communication and a semi-duplex link to a second site. The ADAM-4520 modules convert RS232 signals into isolated RS422 and RS485 signals, providing an industrial grade, long distance communication system with standard PC hardware.
Data is transferred between the scada servers and the various pump stations by means of RTUs equipped with data radios. Information from the scada servers, which are positioned on two of the highest areas surrounding the reservoir, relay the information to the required destinations.
Primarily, the ADAM-4520s have been installed at the Dreigrat and Numasaisspitze sites. Additional modules are planned for the purification plant, basestation, Scorpion Mine Reservoir and the Village Reservoir. Advantech is represented locally by ProMicro.
