Robustel GoRugged R3000 series

Technews Industry Guide - Wireless 2014 Fieldbus & Industrial Networking Industrial Wireless

The Robustel GoRugged R3000 is a series of wireless and cellular routers and gateways purpose built for industrial and machine-to-machine applications. This powerful new platform can be scaled and customised to meet the requirements of any industrial communication requirements or machine-to-machine applications. These units can be set up in a matter of minutes as anything from a wireless gateway to a cellular router or even a GPS tracking system or Modbus gateway.

With advanced features such as VPN tunnelling, Dual SIM redundancy, remote configuration and VLAN tagging these units are ideal for applications from simple gateways to advanced network integration. These units can be specified with digital inputs and outputs as well as serial RS-232/485 communications to allow serial devices to be interrogated remotely for fast and simple fault finding as well as remote data acquisition for PLC and scada systems. Coupled with Robustel’s new RobustLink cloud platform users can monitor, diagnose and update multiple devices from an easy to use web interface while developers can make use of the built in SDK to build custom applications. With security and data integrity becoming ever more important in industrial applications, Robustel have equipped the R3000 range with a host of security features such as a built in SPI firewall, anti-DOS and an access control filter.

Key features include:

* Dual SIM redundancy for continuous cellular connections, supports 2G/3G/4G.

* WAN link management: cellular WAN/Ethernet WAN/WLAN WAN backup.

* VPN tunnel: IPSec/OpenVPN/PPTP/L2TP/GRE.

* Supports Modbus gateway (Modbus RTU/ASCII to Modbus TCP).

* Supports 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi (optional), AP and client mode.

* Supports IP Pass-through.

* Auto reboot via SMS/Caller ID/Timing.

* Flexible Management methods: Web/CLI/SNMP RobustLink.

* Wide range input voltages from 9 to 60 VDC and extreme operating temperature.

* The metal enclosure can be mounted on a DIN-rail or on the wall.

Applications are found in solar or wind energy monitoring, distribution automation, automatic meter reading, video surveillance and remote device industrial automation.

Case History 190: Measurement problem ruins level control.
Michael Brown Control Engineering Editor's Choice Fieldbus & Industrial Networking
The widely held belief in many plants that tuning will solve all base layer control problems is completely fallacious. Bad tuning is generally not the main reason for loops to perform badly. It is important when performing optimisation that all elements in a loop are considered, in addition to the control strategy, before even thinking of tuning.
