Specialist drive engineering company SEW-Eurodrive is able to provide greater value added services to its client base, after the company’s Drive Academy officially achieved ECSA recognised Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits for two training courses.
CPD is a global practice that plays a fundamental role in all engineering careers, by ensuring that professionals maintain and develop their capabilities by proving their competence in existing fields, while learning new technologies and developing new skills in an evolving environment.
The latest breakthrough for the Drive Academy is its two CPD credits awarded by the South African Institution of Mechanical Engineering for its ‘Maintenance and Repair of Geared Motors and Braking Systems Course’, as well as its three credits awarded by the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers for its ‘Movidrive B Course’.
SEW-Eurodrive general manager for communications Rene Rose says: “This latest accreditation is evidence of our commitment to maintaining service delivery excellence to our local customer base in terms of product offering, as well as after-sales service and technical support.”
Both the courses are hosted on a monthly basis at the Drive Academy in Johannesburg; however, employee training can be held onsite at a customer’s premises if requested.
Maintenance and repair of geared motors and braking systems
This two-day course is aimed at maintenance and repair staff who service or repair geared motors on a regular basis. The focal points include an introduction to the different standard gear unit types and their designation and correct disassembly. Ordering spare parts is also covered in the training, in order to ensure that customers have spares of critical parts on site.
Movidrive B course
The Movidrive B is SEW-Eurodrive’s top of the range inverter that meets the most precise requirements for dynamics and control quality. It features an intelligent IPOSplus positioning and sequence control system that makes use of the highly dynamic control properties of the drive inverter. The course is aimed at maintenance personnel, technicians, engineers, designers and project planners.
Since its official establishment in South Africa in 2011, more than 500 customers have received training related to drive engineering from the seventeen predefined courses offered by the Drive Academy training facility.
