New fieldbus options for Krohne level meters

January 2014 Level Measurement & Control

Krohne’s Optiflex 2200 C and Optiwave 5200 C level meters are now available with 2-wire bus protocols, Foundation fieldbus and Profibus PA. For each protocol, a dedicated PACTware DTM enables access to device parameters directly via the instrument.

Bus protocols for the two FMCW radar level meters meet the latest Profibus PA Profile V3.02 and Foundation fieldbus ITK 6.1 interoperability testing. Furthermore, Krohne is engaged in additional interoperability tests by Bilfinger Maintenance Süd GmbH, Germany, (formerly known as BIS) – a Fieldbus Foundation Center of Excellence and Profibus PI Competence Center (PICC).

The Profibus PA versions provide function blocks for level, distance and volume conversion. The Foundation fieldbus protocol additionally supports LAS (Link Active Scheduler) functionality that permits use of the level meters as master within an FF topology. Both versions meet the FISCO safety model for ATEX/IECEx zone 0, 1 and 2 (Ex i as well as Ex d).

Optiflex 2200 C/F and Optiwave 5200 C/F are designed for the chemical, petrochemical, power and pulp and paper industries and comply with all applicable NAMUR standards. Both level meters are approved for use in ATEX, IECEx, cFMus and NEPSI for intrinsically safe as well as in explosion proof areas. Compact versions with analogue output meet SIL2 requirements according to IEC 61508.
