Datalogging and supervisory control module

September 2001 Data Acquisition & Telemetry

The LabVIEW datalogging and supervisory control module is a tool well suited to high channel-count and distributed applications. It offers data management tools and easy networking to provide ease of use, permitting a large channel-count system to be up and running in little time. Whether one needs to build a full-scale industrial automation and control system, a high channel-count datalogging application, or monitor and log a few dozen I/O points for historical collection, this product provides the tools to make efficient use of the development time.

The LabVIEW datalogging and supervisory control module includes an event-driven engine that logs historical data, processes alarm information, and communicates with I/O devices. LabVIEW displays the operator interface and executes functions that the user defines for advanced control algorithms, supervisory control, analysis, and visual presentation. LabVIEW and the engine are both multithreaded, providing users' systems with reliable performance on the Windows 2000/NT/Me/9x operating systems.

Distributed datalogging and trending

The LabVIEW module makes monitoring and historical logging applications easy. It provides extensive datalogging, realtime and historical trending, and graphing capabilities. All historical data information resides in the included ODBC-compliant database, so users can make use of standard database tools to extract the information to other parts of their enterprise.

Alarms and events

The LabVIEW datalogging and supervisory control module automatically processes and logs alarm information and events for the user's system. The user configures alarm conditions for individual tags or uses graphical programming to develop more sophisticated alarming schemes. Users may automatically print alarm conditions or have LabVIEW e-mail a designated operator when an alarm condition changes.

Security

With the LabVIEW datalogging and supervisory control module, security is built into the LabVIEW environment and implemented across the network seamlessly. Users can turn any existing or new LabVIEW application into a secure system by defining system-level and operator interface security with only a few mouse clicks and no programming.

Networking

The LabVIEW datalogging and supervisory control module makes creating distributed applications easy and intuitive. Users only need to browse the network for the data points they want to access. LabVIEW networking uses TCP/IP to share data between LabVIEW systems around their lab, their production floor, or around the world.

HMI and Panel Wizards

The HMI Wizard helps users directly to I/O by simply browsing the data in your system. The Panel Wizard provides a powerful and easy way to build multiwindow front panels with a few mouse clicks.

OPC for industrial I/O connectivity

The LabVIEW datalogging and supervisory control module adds full OPC client and server capabilities to the user's LabVIEW application so they can communicate with any OPC server available on the market today.
