Chemical road loading facility for Sascon completed
September 2001
System Integration & Control Systems Design
When Sastech requested for the complete design and delivery of a modern, safe and ergonomically sound chemical road loading facility for Sascon in Sasolburg, Liquid Automation Systems was selected the successful contractor, due to their experience, engineering expertise and IT capability in providing complete solutions to the petroleum industry.
The key requirements for the project were safety, easy-to-operate, latest technology and easy and safe access of operators to the top of trucks, between loading bays, as well as between the loading racks on the mezzanine floor, where all the control equipment are mounted. All operator interfaces are located on the mezzanine floor.
The loading facility consisting of two loading gantries feature five modular skid-mounted loading bays per gantry, each measuring 3 m in height, a walkway between bays of 4 m in height and a roof of a height of 9 m. The whole structure was shop-welded and bolted together on site to minimise welding and cutting on site and downtime of the loading facility. The whole project was completed in 14 months, with only a short period of six weeks where Sascon was using other facilities to load the trucks.
Products from LAS used on the project are the Contrec 1010 batch controller, OMC top loading arms, Greenline aluminium folding stairs, Enraf Securitere grounding device and MeterWin automation software, with the coriolis mass flowmeter from Endress + Hauser.

Loop signature 23: Tuning Part 2.
Editor's Choice System Integration & Control Systems Design
It is my opinion that most tuning methods are very crude. They do of course also offer a starting point for tuning if one is not fortunate enough to have a sophisticated tuning package like a Protuner around.

Understanding the role of AI in generative engineering design
System Integration & Control Systems Design
When a design engineer sets out to design a new part, component, or assembly, the intent is to meet the design requirements for fit, form and function, and also incorporate a certain degree of innovation and elegance to the overall design. There is no reason to re-invent the wheel by introducing a new design.
