Secunda Penmac Roadshow - the annual event

September 2001 News

With 26 July being in the middle of winter, for most of the exhibitors to The Control Roadshow the morning started early - with frost, ice and a large measure of coffee. Setting up of this exhibition, like all the other roadshows, ran from 8h00 to 12h00, which ensures much activity where one was well advised to stay clear of all passages and walkways for fear of being run down.

Secunda is a very interesting community that has, over the years, developed in a so-called remote area while at the same time consistently maintained its position as one of the technological leaders in the country. It is not surprising then to hear that a Secunda Branch of the South African Institute of Measurement and Control has recently been constituted and is already very active amongst the instrumentation fraternity. With the inclusion of the SAIMC and 49 other exhibitors, The Secunda Roadshow on 26 July, has now taken the honours as the largest Control Roadshow yet, and certainly the largest focused instrumentation showcase to have ever visited Secunda.

From humble beginnings in 1998, The Control Roadshow has provided a service to the control and instrumentation industry, which in response has contributed to a growth of 212% since July 1998. It is clear that instrumentation and control practitioners in the remote areas need to be kept abreast of technology, and localised exhibitions are a very effective way of achieving this.

This year at the Sasol Club saw the inclusion of many very significant national suppliers to the industry as well as the all-important local suppliers that live within the community. Both services are critical to the manufacturing industry and were admirably represented by the following companies:

Adroit Technologies, Airtech, Alpret Control Specialists, Anglo Allied Engineering, Ascoreg, Atlas Industrial Systems, Bürkert Contromatic, Control Techniques, Danfoss, Endress + Hauser, Futuristix, Honeywell, Ind Auto & Control, Instrotech, J Coetzer Industries, KAB Instruments, Kübler Africa, Lapp Cable, Loadtech, Measurtronic, Moeller Electric, N&Z Instrumentation, National Instruments, Newco Instrumentation, Phoenix Contact, Pinnacle Instruments, PLC Direct, PREI Instruments, Thermo Ramsey, Rockwell Automation, SAIMC, SAN People, Shorrock Automation, Siemens, Sperogroup, Temperature Controls, Thermacon, Throughput Technologies, TIM Controls, Titan Technology, TM Automation, Tracerco Africa, Valve & Automation, Vega Instruments SA, Westplex, Wika Instruments, Xycom/IPC, Yokogawa SA, Yelland Control.

The Penmac Control Roadshow schedule for the remainder of 2001 includes the Vaal Triangle on 20 September and Stellenbosch on 15 November, with two unscheduled shows having taken place in Port Elizabeth and East London in August. The 2002 schedule of Roadshows is due to be finalised in early September.
