Ventilation fan optimisation solutions from Allpronix

May 2013 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

Increased productivity, decreased production costs and a safer working environment are probably the three main benefits any underground mine would consider when considering a solution to improve profitability.

Allpronix has introduced to South African industry the Maestro FanMon, a continuous 24-7 monitoring system designed to eliminate the need for ‘walk-around’ checks by technicians using handheld devices. The system’s vibration and AirFlow software can be remotely viewed anywhere on the network or even off-site. Once an alarm threshold is reached, FanMon offers relatively inexpensive insurance for avoiding costly failures and can improve the effectiveness with which fan maintenance is planned.

This is a complete monitoring solution for primary or booster fans that are used to supply fresh air in underground mines. The monitoring system provides real-time measurement of fan airflow, static pressure, bearing and stator temperature and vibration. Differential pressure, gas monitoring and back draft damper position sensors can also be added to this system, which plugs directly into any network switch for easy integration into a scada or DCS platform.

The system is designed to detect fan imbalance, overall vibration and specific bearing vibration levels to provide early detection before unscheduled failures. Advanced software is provided and can be viewed from anywhere on the network enabling third-party vibration experts to view the fan’s performance remotely without additional costs and time delays.

Proper ventilation fan monitoring has proven to reduce energy and other related costs, and real-time readings are essential for ventilation fan optimisation. Benefits of the Allpronix system include:

* Real-time fan performance monitoring.

* Advanced diagnostics.

* Open network communications protocol.

* Easy and affordable deployment.

* Vibration software analysis.

* Continuous ventilation air flow measurement.
