Corrosion-resistant filter housing for chemical applications

May 2013 Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors

Amazon Filters has introduced two new ranges of housings specifically designed for the filtration of corrosive chemicals: Tantaline housings and 18 Series PTFE housings. Both of these products have significant benefits over the existing housings and will be of interest to companies in the chemicals and pharmaceutical industries, as well as other industries that filter aggressive chemicals.

The Tantaline range has been modified to provide a surface that is composed of pure Tantalum metal. This provides a product that has superior resistance to many corrosive chemicals than nickel alloys such as Hastelloy, and a significantly more robust surface finish than coated housings. The use of Tantaline vapour deposition for protection against chemical attack is already being used with other process equipment including valves, pipe work fittings, couplings and pump impellers. The Tantaline alloy deposition is approximately 50 m deep and typically a depth of only 10 m is needed for protection, therefore significant safety margin is built into the design. Amazon Filters is the first company to apply this technology to stainless steel housings.

The 18 Series housings are manufactured from PTFE and exhibit exceptional resistance to a wide range of chemicals. The 18 Series housings consist of two variants, one made from pure unfilled PTFE and one made from carbon filled PTFE. The carbon filled PTFE housing is conductive so reduces the risk of static build-up and discharge and therefore is particularly attractive for processes operated in potentially explosive atmospheres.
