Yokogawa Electric Corporation has announced that its subsidiary, Yokogawa India, has won an order from Jaiprakash Power Ventures (JPVL) in India to supply a control system for the Jaypee Nigrie supercritical coal-fired power plant that is currently being built at Nigrie, central India. This type of plant generates steam for turbines with high thermal efficiency by operating at a temperature and pressure that is above the critical pressure point. This consumes less fuel and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. The Jaypee Nigrie plant will have a total output of 1320 MW (two 660 MW units), and the first unit is scheduled to start operation in April 2013.
Owing to India’s rapid economic growth, power companies have not been able to keep pace with the country’s rising demand for electricity. To ensure a stable supply of electric power, the Indian government is planning to construct numerous large coal-fired power plants and refurbish a number of ageing facilities. In this rapidly expanding market, Yokogawa has stepped up its efforts to win power plant control system orders.
This order includes the Centum VP integrated production control system for the power plant’s boiler and turbine auxiliaries. The production control system will be supported by a water and steam analysis system, flue gas analysers and other field instrumentation to be provided by Yokogawa. To ensure efficient operations throughout the lifecycle of this power plant, Yokogawa will also supply a comprehensive solution consisting of a plant diagnosis and optimisation software package and a high-fidelity operator training simulator. Yokogawa India will be responsible for the entire project, including engineering, installation, and commissioning services.
