Banner Engineering has announced SI-LS100 and SI-LS83 safety switches - innovative safety switches with a rotating actuator head. The switches can be wired to a safety relay module that actuates machine control elements to halt dangerous motion when a mechanical guard is opened. The actuator rotates in 90° increments with no tools, allowing engagement from four sides and four top positions. This flexibility allows users to specify and inventory fewer models.
Especially significant, these compact, low-profile switches fit where others will not. Measuring just 30,5 mm deep, the switches come in two heights, 83 or 100 mm, depending on the number of contacts and are ideal for applications with space limitations. The switches are available with a choice of five actuators: two in-line types for sliding doors and lift-off covers; vertical radius and horizontal radius, for hinged doors; and flexible, for hinged door applications with misalignment or vibration factors. Mechanically-coded actuators utilise two independent operating elements to minimise intentional tampering or defeat.
The limit switch design includes positive opening contacts that are not dependent upon mechanical springs for operation and complies with the highest US, European and International standards, including BG GS-ET-15, EN 50047 and IEC 60947-5-1. The switches are also listed with or comply with, UL, CSA and CE standards.
The contact configuration for SI-LS100 models is two normally-closed and one normally-open. SI-LS83 models are available with a choice of two contact configurations, one normally-closed and one normally-open or two normally-closed.
SI-LS contacts are rated: 10 A at 24 V a.c., 10 A at 110 V a.c., 6 A at 230 V a.c. and 6 A at 24 V d.c. The switches feature isolated contacts and have an estimated operation life of one million operations. The units provide a maximum switching speed of 30 operations/min and a maximum actuator speed of 1 m/s.
Designed for use in demanding industrial environments, these units are housed in glass fibre-reinforced polyamide thermoplastic with metal actuator and rated NEMA 4 and IEC IP65. An exceptionally wide operating temperature range, -30 to 80°C, enables the devices to perform in both high and low temperature applications.
