Identify and manage radio interference

The suite of diagnostic tools built into every Elpro 245U-E Ethernet modem is designed to make commissioning and troubleshooting industrial Wi-Fi networks both comprehensive and easy.

Elpro’s site survey provides information on any other Wi-Fi systems that are present. It will indicate how many systems are present, the channels they occupy as well as their maximum radio data rate and respective signal strengths – helping to avoid any potential congestion problems.

Channel utilisation surveys on the Elpro 245 modems provide a visual indication of how busy a current channel is over a period of time. Channel utilisation can be a useful tool during site surveys to determine the best RF channel to use. It will also identify spare capacity on a given channel, as well as possible sources of interference.

Throughput testing measures the performance or the speed at which one can send data over the radio link. This provides an indication of the maximum capacity.

There are several useful indicators that can help identify the condition of radio links, such as the signal strength levels. These values are conveniently available as readable Modbus registers on the Elpro 245U-E modems.

Elpro’s 245U-E range of modems provides rich visual indication in the form of front panel LED activity. It is possible quickly to see that an Elpro 245U-E modem might be transmitting, but not receiving, messages just based on the LEDs. These LED indicators also double-up to act as performance gauges for RSSI and Throughput testing (when enabled).
