Convenient leak and pulse logging

July 2001 Data Acquisition & Telemetry

HIOKI has recently released two new instruments in its compact data logger series: the 3638-20 Leak Logger with clamp-on leak sensor, for recording and monitoring of leak current, and the 3639-20 Pulse Logger, for accumulating pulse signal outputs from equipment such as hygrometers and watt-hour meters. Both loggers provide a simple and economical way to log the necessary data for records and analysis.

Both instruments are small and lightweight (130 g). They feature two-channel recording with a maximum recording capacity of 32 000 data items - data is preserved when the batteries are exhausted or replaced. There is an alarm output (for upper bound specification), and recorded data may be displayed as graphs on a PC.

The 3638-20 Leak Logger is a simple, low-cost data logger that makes it possible to record and manage unpredictable leak currents. Three sizes are provided for the special clamp-on leak sensor, depending on the size of the object being measured. The compact unit can record and manage two systems simultaneously with two input channels, to improve operating efficiency.

Features

* Choice of three types of clamp-on leak sensors.

* Accurate calculation of true root-mean-square, even for distorted waves (100/1000 mA).

* Maximum recording/average recording (maximum/average within the recording interval).

* Recording interval: 15 variations, from 1 s to 60 min.

The 3639-20 Pulse Logger connects to equipment that outputs pulses, such as a rain gauge, integrating wattmeter, or gas pipe flow meter, and records the number of pulses within a fixed interval. It can simply - and with low cost, log various types of pulse signals using a single pulse input channel that can accommodate a non-voltage input (relay, switch, etc) or a voltage input over a wide range from + 1,5 V to + 45 V.

Features

* Wide range of input voltages.

* Maximum data count of 9999.

* Counting mistakes prevented by noise filter.

* Recording interval: 16 variations, from 1 s to 1 day.

Both instruments are easy to set up due to their small size. They are battery operated, so no external power supply is needed. As with other units in our compact data logger series, they are compatible with the 3911-20 Communication Base infrared optical interface so that recorded data can be sent to a personal computer, making it possible to observe and manage the data and graphs on a screen.
