Specialist System Engineering (SSE) Cape Town branch awarded telemetry contract

System Integration & Control Systems Design
SSE's Cape Town Branch established in April this year has got off to a flying start by being awarded the largest telemetry contract in the Western Cape to go out to tender for many years. SSE's Branch Manager Clive Maasch says, "We are extremely proud to be appointed for such a high profile and prestigious contract, the type of contract that will certainly entrench us as a major contender in the Western Cape's growing telemetry market."
Overberg water system overview
The system consists of three phases, which include three Adroit scada central stations and approximately 25 reservoir and pump station outstations. The system covers the area from Caledon in the south as far as Heidelberg in the East. The system will provide remote control of the pumps, flow and level trends as well as alarm reporting, and is expected to expand in the future as the demand for water increases. The Overberg Regional Services Council provides water to many of the municipalities in that area. The municipalities have seen rapid growth with holidaymakers and tourism on the increase, and demand for water is growing. The implementation of a telemetry system will enable the water network to be managed more efficiently, enabling the RSC to meet the future demands of the area.
Maasch, who has more than eight years' experience in the telemetry market says, "SSE's product is very progressive and has moved with industry demands. The product makes use of cellular and radio technology for wide area communications and integrates PLC technology into the RTU to provide sophisticated control algorithms for remote control applications. It is features such as these that give Overberg Water the peace of mind that the equipment can cater for more demanding applications in the future."

System Integration & Control Systems Design
When a design engineer sets out to design a new part, component, or assembly, the intent is to meet the design requirements for fit, form and function, and also incorporate a certain degree of innovation and elegance to the overall design. There is no reason to re-invent the wheel by introducing a new design.
