Blade UPS for high-efficiency data centres
February 2012
IT in Manufacturing
Eaton Corporation’s modular 3-phase BladeUPS is designed specifically for use in small and medium sized data centres to protect high-density blade servers and IT equipment. The UPS is easy to install and use and scales in line with growing power needs. It complements Eaton’s existing IT UPS offering and is an ideal fit for the product portfolios of both IT distributors and resellers. Eaton also offers a range of pre-packaged, easily configurable power protection solutions for server rooms and small and medium data centres. These off-the-shelf solutions provide all the necessary components for a fully operational small data centre. The packages come in six sizes, ranging from XS to XXL.
Compact efficiency
The modular BladeUPS is specifically designed for data centre IT equipment, providing reliable power enabling simple scaling as power needs grow. BladeUPS minimises operational expenses through its 98% operating efficiency. Power protection ranges from 12 to 60 kilowatts in N+1 configuration, with the 60 kW N+1 available mounted in a single standard 19-inch rack enclosure. Capacity can be expanded by combining 12 kW 6U modules in a building-block fashion. “This modular approach means that a data centre’s infrastructure is designed not only for today’s needs, but also to scale and grow to meet future power demands, which helps control and manage the initial capital expenditure of powering a data centre,” says Graham Beyleveld, general manager, Eaton Power Quality. “The number of modules can grow or configurations can be altered to meet the changing requirements. And if you need to move your IT equipment, simply redeploy BladeUPS and it is ready to use”. The Eaton BladeUPS can save space and money through its high efficiency packed into a small footprint.
Pre-packaged solutions designed to meet demand
Eaton offers a range of pre-packaged, easily configurable power protection solutions for server rooms and small and medium data centres. These off-the-shelf solutions provide all the necessary components for a fully operational small data centre, including a UPS, power distribution units, and housing and monitoring for IT equipment. The packages come in six sizes. L, XL and XXL solutions include the Eaton BladeUPS, to meet power needs ranging from 12 kW to 60 kW N+1. “These pre-packaged data centre solutions are very effective, combining state-of-the-art technology in a simple, configurable one-stop solution,” says Beyleveld. “In addition to being easier to buy and use, these plug-and-play packages are highly flexible and can be easily adjusted to changing environments. Both BladeUPS and pre-packaged solutions combine seamlessly with Eaton’s unique Intelligent Power software solutions for virtualisation, making them an elegant IT solution for distributors and resellers. The components of these pre-packaged solutions are shipped together, ready to install. Components can be added and updated as power demand grows.
