Operations management award for Bytes System Integration

Bytes Systems Integration and Eskom Generation recently won the Invensys Operations Management Open International award for the implementation of an enterprise wide environmental monitoring solution for Eskom’s geographically distributed power network around the country. This is the second time that the company has won the award for Enterprise Manufacturing Intelligence projects.
The Bytes solution was chosen as one of four out of 80 global entries that were submitted for the competing categories in Operations Management. Contestants were nominated for the innovative use of Invensys products and solutions to generate business results in the categories of Operational Excellence: Asset Excellence, Control Excellence, People Excellence as well as Environment and Safety Excellence. Winners were selected based on the business results achieved using an IOM product or solution and were recognised during the company’s OpsManage’11 series of global industry events in Paris.
Bytes created the enterprise wide Environmental Monitoring System using Invensys Operations Management’s ArchestrA System Platform. The system based on gathering real-time process data into a structured framework, from every power station, is helping Eskom meet generation contract obligations, sustain revenues and operate within environmental limits to avoid non-compliance penalties. “This project proves that the Invensys ArchestrA System Platform can add tremendous value to any organisation if applied creatively within an Operations Management environment. The flexibility of the technology enabled us to connect to multiple source systems and applications so we can deliver critical real-time decision-making information to the highest levels of the company,” said Gerhard Greeff, divisional manager of Bytes Systems Integration.
