NewElec is offering a new range of motor protection relays. Aimed primarily at the pump market, they go a long way towards meeting the protection demands of most electric motor applications.
Features include compactness, integrated CTs all the way to 50 A, and a door mounted MMI fitted with an infrared sensor. This gives access to the relay settings and faults and events records without having to open the cubicle door or flameproof enclosure. These contribute to improved operational safety and better time efficiency.
The protection relays can account for up to 2000 event records and 60 last faults, complete with values of current interrupted, time, date, voltage at the time of trip and circuit interruption time. They can also provide information on apparent and actual power consumption of the motor.
Improved protection benefits include earth insulation lockout (prior to starting the motor), frozen contactor back-tripping facilities and an array of features related to dry-run protection. Examples are user selected priming time, dry run detection by power factor measurement or current only, and user selectable automatic motor restart with delay timer. Earth leakage protection may be selected as instantaneous or IDMT, with sensitivities from 30 to 1000 mA,
Advanced features include harmonic filtering, frequency monitoring, start and run stall protection parameters and up to nine control logic parameters that may be allocated either to the main trip contact or the on-board auxiliary relay.

To listen to a symphony is one of the world’s great gifts. A conductor must ensure that instruments play beautifully as a whole and are kind to the ear and uplifting to the spirit yet shine in their individuality. The same can be said of a DERMS, which must effectively manage diverse energy sources to avoid compromising the grid’s integrity.
