All-round safety with Sendix encoders

Choosing the right encoder for functional safety is achieved via the intelligent combination of encoder, controller and actuator. Kübler’s Sendix SSI/BiSS absolute encoders with additional Sin/Cos output and Sendix incremental encoders in Sin/Cos version are now available with SIL3/PLe certification to play a key role amongst the components of a safe plant.

The Sendix SIL absolute encoders obtain safe information about the absolute position; here the controller counts the incremental pulses and compares the result with the absolute position, also provided by the same encoder. However, in the case of the Sendix SIL incremental encoders, the controller monitors the validity of the analogue, 90° phase-shifted sine/cosine signals with the help of the function sin²+cos² = 1. In addition, Sendix SIL-certified incremental and absolute encoders ensure a safe mechanical connection in the application and sturdy fixing elements guarantee 100% reliability.

Kübler Sendix SIL encoders feature a rugged, reliable interface and the ability to withstand high loads thanks to the extra strong bearings in the Safety Lock design. The result is high accuracy and a long service life. With IP67 protection and magnetic insensitivity – thanks to optical scanning – the Sendix SIL encoders offer ‘All-round Safety’.

In compliance with Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, the MTTFd values for the most important standard encoders from Kübler are provided. This thus enables users to carry out calculations according to DIN EN 61800-5-2 and DIN EN ISO 13849.
