Ci Technologies, a leader in the development of scada and HMI software for industrial automation, now offers Citect Enterprise 2000, a product that delivers far-reaching connectivity capabilities to the company's industrial automation solution, Citect for Windows.
Citect Enterprise 2000 delivers a suite of tools that allows two-way data transfers between Citect and SQL Server, Oracle, Visual Basic and Microsoft Office 2000 database solutions – all without the need for complicated programming or configuration. Developed using open-system technologies, Citect Enterprise 2000 gives Citect customers the power to implement communication strategies that draw upon data collected from every aspect of the business - from the plant floor right through to remote Internet locations.
The flexible connectivity capabilities of the software means Citect data can look and function like other corporate data, making it accessible to all staff in a familiar form.
There are five key components to Citect Enterprise 2000:
* Plant SQL.
* Oracle Provider.
* Web Link.
* VB Link.
* Office Link.
Plant SQL
One of the main advantages of Citect Enterprise 2000 is the capability for direct communication between Citect and SQL Server solutions. Fulfilling its open-system philosophy, Enterprise 2000 uses an OLE DB interface to communicate with SQL Server 7. This solid combination allows straightforward query support between Citect and Microsoft SQL Server 7, delivering the ability to share trend, alarm and tag data with other applications across an enterprise without having to resort to proprietary interfaces or complicated programming. Microsoft IIS 4.0 Web server support also provides data distribution via unlimited Web browser connections.
Oracle Provider
Two-way communication between Citect and Oracle business solutions is possible using Enterprise 2000's Oracle Provider. For example, production recipes can be loaded into Citect from Oracle, with actual quantities returned by Citect.
VB Link
VB Link makes it easy for OEMs, system integrators and middleware providers to develop vertical market solutions that can draw on Citect data. The interface is easy to use and allows simple integration of ActiveX Data Objects (ADOs) such as data grids.
Web Link
Web Link means Citect data can be applied to HTML scripts, making possible an array of applications as boundless as the Internet itself. Java and ActiveX enabled browsers are supported, as well as Internet server technologies such as Microsoft IIS 4.0 and Personal Web Server. Citect data can also be updated using Web Link.
Office Link
Citect Enterprise 2000 will support seamless two-way communication with Microsoft's Office 2000 suite, making Citect data available for direct import into spreadsheets, charts and documents on any standard PC desktop.
The software will provide additional assistance to the user through pre-integrated plug-ins and examples, offering an instant solution for many commonly used applications. The product has been designed for easy installation and a simple set-up process that requires minimal expertise.
"Citect customers stand to benefit enormously from the emerging era of enterprise-wide information sharing," said Steve Russell, International Sales Manager for Ci Technologies. "By bridging the traditional divide between the plant floor and other business processes, Citect Enterprise 2000 can make corporation-wide information management a reality. The open-platform philosophy that has driven the development of Enterprise 2000 also means companies can implement future strategies using the tools of their choice."
