Enhanced alert manager improves asset utilisation

June 2001 SCADA/HMI

Honeywell Hi-Spec Solutions has released a new Version 130 of its @sset.MAX Alert Manager plant asset management system for improved asset utilisation in the process industries.

The system delivers advanced decision-support capabilities, early warning of asset deterioration and prediction of equipment failure, and knowledge exchange for process optimisation. Users can increase plant availability and uptime, reduce maintenance time and labour costs, and increase product throughput with operation closer to optimal conditions.

Major enhancements include more robust reporting of symptoms and potential equipment failures, via seven different means; identification of the specific assets experiencing problems; modularisation, allowing users to select functionality to meet their requirements; and customisation capability for flexible implementation.

Virginia Burnell, Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell Hi-Spec Solutions, said, "The new Alert Manager software can help companies do a better job of capturing unrealised plant profitability. By providing early detection and notification of possible problems, it opens a window of opportunity for repair or replacement of faulty equipment without unplanned downtime."

"Waiting for equipment failures to occur is costly and unproductive," Burnell said. "Alert Manager avoids this inefficiency by bridging the gap between the Operations and Maintenance departments. It focuses the efforts of plant personnel to achieve managed asset optimisation by means of a systematic, timely and cost-reducing process."

Alert Manager is easy to use, providing a visual at-a-glance display of the important assets of a plant, in multiple user-defined asset views. It leverages a plant's existing investments in other systems by using information from a number of different sources, including data from field instruments, event-monitoring systems, condition monitoring systems, and historical databases, as well as human input.

Claimed to be the first truly open and comprehensive plant asset management system, Alert Manager supports a variety of asset types and includes open interfaces for integration to the full range of third-party analysis and diagnostic tools. The product integrates with third-party condition monitoring applications, computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS), reliability analysis packages and mobile tools for workflow automation.

The software can be quickly and easily installed on any Microsoft Windows NT or 2000 platform. Unlike reliability-based maintenance software that relies on ODBC technology for connectivity and risks database corruption, Alert Manager connects with existing information systems in a secure way.

The modular design of Alert Manager, combined with its ease of integration to other systems, creates a cost-effective means for manufacturers to share and manage knowledge throughout their plants.

Alert Manager is a member of the @sset.MAX family of open, modular, and value-based solutions that maximise plant revenue and profitability by expanding asset capability. The @sset.MAX portfolio is designed to bring operation closer to optimal conditions with increased plant availability and fewer incidents, resulting in superior business performance.
