Web-enabled asset management: a value contribution

June 2011 IT in Manufacturing

Endress+Hauser offers a powerful Web-enabled asset management (W@M) platform to facilitate the management of an installed base effectively. Because it is based on Web technology, the W@M tool is flexible and platform vendor independent.

This asset management solution facilitates real-time access to an instrument’s relevant life cycle data ie, from engineering through to maintenance and finally to replacement via a migration equivalent device. Furthermore, it assists with the initial selection of the instrument from the purchasing process, device installation, commissioning and operations phases and finally to its withdrawal from the process.

Data and functionality

All information is recorded and captured by Endress+Hauser with respect to its instruments. This includes information such as product availability, original calibration certificates and operating manuals. The functionality of W@M is not restricted to Endress+Hauser measuring instruments as W@M allows the user to register any type of asset (process equipment and instrumentation) and attach a variety of documents in electronic data format.

Spare parts for Endress+Hauser instruments are automatically listed from a regularly updated database. Exploded view drawings are also available to help identify the correct and relevant spare parts easily, while the logbook records all events for a device. Calibrations or repairs completed by Endress+Hauser are logged in this location automatically.

Analysing and managing

W@M gives users an overview of their plant structure to ensure easy navigation of the installed base of instruments. Key performance indicators are plotted in the ‘Base Matrix’ and give an intuitive indication of the relative process criticality versus the related risk of maintainability.

The W@M Portfolio ensures and optimises the management of any installed base by supporting all phases of the life cycle: engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning and operations.
