Reunert signs agreement with Mitsubishi Electric, Japan
June 2001
News
Reunert company, Circuit Breaker Industries (CBI), continues to expand. In a deal which will result in projected sales of R70m per annum, CBI has acquired certain stock and has been appointed a distributor in sub-Saharan Africa for Mitsubishi Electric's switchgear and factory automation products. The implementation of the transaction is subject to approval from the Competition Commission.
CBI designs and manufactures low-voltage switchgear for the protection of installations and equipment from overload and short circuit and is one of the leaders in earth leakage protection technology. The Mitsubishi products include programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and a wide range of motor control gear.
Mitsubishi Electric, Japan, has reviewed the marketing arrangements for certain of its products in South Africa. After careful consideration, it has been concluded that sales and service of switchgear and factory automation products could be further enhanced by involving a local partner.
CBI will have distribution rights to 22 countries in sub-Saharan Africa for at least the next five years. Already a major exporter to these countries, CBI will have the opportunity to market products previously not offered by it particularly in the market for electrical switchgear and factory automation.
Says CBI Managing Director Helmuth Fischer, "The distributorship agreement broadens our product range and allows us to make full use of our local and international distribution network. The CBI brand is well established in southern Africa and associated with service excellence. We are continuously looking for products that can increase our product offering and the services we render to our customers."
CBI recently acquired Lightning & Transient Surge Suppression, a company that has developed surge protection equipment in cooperation with the University of the Witwatersrand. At the end of last year CBI also entered into an exclusive sale and manufacturing agreement with Tellumat to produce its prepayment meters under the CBI brand name.
