Beyond Wireless introduces tracking tool

While the percentage of cash-in-transit heists taking place in South Africa has recently dropped, organised gangs are now targeting delivery trucks carrying electronic consumer and other valuable goods. “They are softer targets than a cash-in-transit vehicle, and while some cash-in-transit vehicles only carry R300 000 to R400 000, a truck carrying cellphones or electronic goods might be carrying products worth R3 million,” says Ian Lester, CEO of local specialist wireless machine to machine (M2M) communication solutions provider, Beyond Wireless.
Lester notes that vehicle tracking is not particularly effective in combating this type of theft as thieves merely unpack the merchandise into another vehicle and drive away with it. “You know exactly where your vehicle is, but your goods are gone,” he says.
To develop a solution to combat attacks on delivery trucks and stores, Beyond Wireless has developed a new product tracking tool, iSpook, currently in testing. The system is designed for the electronics, FMCG, pharmaceutical and other industries suffering from high rates of theft.
“iSpook is an intelligent tool that aims to combat theft in delivery vehicles, warehouses and even in-store,” explains Lester. “For reasons of security, we do not want to broadcast how the technology works, but we believe that it has applications in a wide range of industries. Beyond Wireless is confident that this product tracking solution is customisable for almost any industry and product and is looking forward to rolling it out in a variety of applications.”
