The SRM6000 wireless modem, available from National Instruments, comes ready to use out of the box. It employs frequency-hopping spread spectrum for maximum reliability and immunity to noise and interference. The modem connects to a FieldPoint network module and is designed for industrial environments such as water and wastewater, oil and gas or manufacturing plants.
"In many manufacturing applications installing cabling is very costly, problematic or impossible," says Gavin Dowling, MD of local distributor, Westplex. "The SRM6000 overcomes these problems and because it uses the 902 to 928 MHz spread spectrum band, you can operate it without an FCC or DOC site licence."
The wireless modem transmits up to 20 miles using line-of-sight antennas. In addition to working as a remote modem with FieldPoint, the unit can be configured as a base unit. The base unit receives transmissions from the field and directly sends them to a personal computer running industrial automation software that interfaces with the FieldPoint system.
About FieldPoint
The SRM6000, like all FieldPoint modules and accessories, is built for maximum reliability and is easy to install and maintain. Removing and replacing the FieldPoint digital and analog modules can be done without repowering or rebooting the FieldPoint system. The modules snap into terminal bases and onboard processors automatically configure them. With the ability to operate across wide temperature ranges (-40 to 70°C), FieldPoint works in well in harsh industrial environments. FieldPoint also offers OLE for process control (OPC) compatibility. With OPC standard objects, properties and methods for implementing measurement and automation applications, FieldPoint modules easily integrate with other standard industrial and manufacturing devices.
Analysers for use in high ambient temperature environments
Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
The 993X series of analysers from Ametek Process Industries are now IECEx Zone 2 certified for use in locations with up to 60°C ambient temperature. Built with IP66-rated enclosures and using an integrated cooling system, they can be installed outdoors or in minimally temperature-controlled enclosures, reducing complexity while lowering capital and operating costs.

At its peak in 1994, the energy generation capacity of the UK’s nuclear power stations was 12,7 GW across 16 plants. In 2024, the capacity has fallen to around 5 GW, and the number of stations is down to nine. However, this is far from the end of the story as spent nuclear fuel remains radioactive for centuries, and requires rigorous safety processes to safeguard against leaks.
