Endress+Hauser’s RMA42 includes a temperature transmitter, loop power supply, barrier and a limit switch all in one device. Furthermore, the transmitter can be configured to accept current, voltage resistances or thermocouple inputs. Up to two universal inputs can be set for relevant intrinsic safe processes.
Through predefined mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, average, multiplication) calculations can be easily and quickly configured. Two independent linearisation tables allow the definition of curves using 32 supporting points. Thus for example the respective volume can be calculated using the level. The device status is given by the additional open collector output. The device conforms to NAMUR NE43 standards.
Control function combined with easy system integration
When an instantaneous limit value is reached the optional relay output can be used. Therefore the device is suitable for use in intrinsic safe areas such as overfill protection or as a temperature limit device (two-step control). The integrated analogue current and voltage outputs ensure a seamless integration into any scada/DCS systems. The transmitter is equipped with a logging function; minimum and maximum values as well as math functionality.
Trend-setting performance features
Free voltage input supply using either 20-250 VAC or DC can be used. Thus, the selection of the product is simplified and stock holding for replacement devices is optimised. The onboard loop power supply can be used to power up devices in intrinsic safe areas. This feature negates the need for the use of additional barriers. Due to its auxiliary power supply, the device can power two loops and is galvanically isolated from both input and output.
Everything on-site – set-up and display
A simulation mode has been integrated to ensure quick and easy on-site commissioning. In the simulation mode, the analogue values as well as the switch status of the relays can be selected. The speed dial keys that are integrated in the front allow manual switching between channels during operation and can be programmed to alternate automatically.
The use of back lighting ensures the display is visible and easily read even in poor light conditions. The TAG, engineering unit as well as the bar-graph can be displayed separately in yellow on the same display. The numerical values are also easily visible on illuminated display. The device has a self diagnostic functionality. In the case of a fault, the face turns red and an error message is given.
The transmitter’s flexibility allows it to be used in a variety of industries such as food and beverage as well as the petrochemical industry. The transmitter can be configured using FieldCare software and USB interface with the PC. Further assistance is offered by help text prompts. The RMA42 offers an intelligent combination performance feature as well as a quick and easy handling functionality.
