Free training initiative from Wonderware
December 2010

Wonderware Southern Africa, a member of the EOH group, has announced a new initiative that will provide free training to aspiring engineers who wish to pursue a career in industrial automation in the mining and manufacturing industries.
Starting 1 November 2010, Wonderware Southern Africa will provide free training on its range of SCADA and industrial application platforms to anybody with a technical tertiary qualification in IT and engineering.
Wonderware is a leading supplier of industrial automation solutions world-wide and its enterprise information products are among the most widely used in the mining and manufacturing industries.
The curriculum includes two InTouch (HMI/SCADA) courses handling the fundamentals and advanced aspects of the product as well as two System Platform courses which address all aspects of the world’s most popular historian, web portal and application server. Wonderware’s System Platform, based on ArchestrA technology, is today the base upon which all Wonderware solutions rely for integration and the sharing of services. In total, this amounts to 20 days of training.
To qualify for the programme, applicants must have:
* A technical tertiary qualification in IT or engineering.
* No current employment.
* Complete and up-to-date CV.
* A once-off registration fee of R500.
Deon van Aardt, Wonderware Southern Africa MD, when asked about the 'free training' and the once-off registration fee of R500, replied: “We are offering over R40 000 worth of training for free. They have to pass competency checks that prove their understanding and only then will they get a certificate testifying to their ability.”
“It is clear that as economic conditions turn, there will be an increasing demand for technical personnel. Exacerbating this is the already short supply of engineering skills in the market,” says Wonderware User Group chairman John Coetzee.
