Thermal imagers for building inspection

June 2010 Temperature Measurement

Fluke’s thermal imagers are designed for the demands of building inspection, restoration, and roofing applications. Whether required to perform energy audits, locate the origins of construction problems or find leaks, Fluke offers an economical solution for complete detection, analysis and documentation.

* The Fluke Ti32 industrial thermal imager is designed for troubleshooting and preventive maintenance of electrical installations, electro-mechanical equipment, process and HVAC equipment.

* The Fluke TiR32 thermal imager for building diagnostics is to deliver the performance required by building envelope, energy audit, inspection and roofing professionals.

Both instruments incorporate a powerful 320x240 sensor to provide high definition, detailed images. Using Fluke’s patented IR-Fusion technology, users can marry high precision thermal with visual (visible light) images using picture-in-picture or blended views for enhanced problem detection and analysis. IR-Fusion’s physical parallax correction enables alignment, pixel by pixel, of both infrared and visible images. Users can record voice commentary with every image taken.

Each camera is supplied with two field swappable, rechargeable batteries: typical battery life is more than four hours from each. Optional telephoto and wide-angle lenses are available to bring distant and wide views into sharp focus.

The Ti32 and TiR32 are tested to withstand a drop of 2 m, and IP54 rated to withstand water and dust. With a widescreen, full colour LCD display, increased thermal sensitivity and temperature measurement ranges of -20 to 600°C for the Ti32; and -20 to +150°C for the TiR32.

Both include a 2 GB SD memory card that will store at least 3000 basic infrared images (.bmp or .jpg formats) or 1200 fully radiometric (.is2 IR Fusion file format) infrared and linked visual images, each with 60 seconds of voice annotation. A multifunction memory card reader (USB) for downloading images to a computer is also included.

The Fluke Ti32 industrial thermal imager is designed for inspection and process control applications in many industrial functions, including:

* Inside electrical distribution and service (switch gear, panels, controls, fuses, transformers, outlets, lighting, conductors, overhead buses and motor control centres).

* Motors, pumps and mechanical equipment (electric motors and generators, pumps, compressors, evaporators, bearings, couplings, gearboxes, belts and rollers).

* Process (tanks and vessels, pipes, valves and traps, reactors, process insulation).

* HVAC (air conditioning, heating, air handlers and refrigeration).

The Fluke TiR32 thermal imager for building diagnostics is designed for applications including:

* Energy Audits: perform infrared energy audits for residential and commercial applications. Increase the thermal efficiency of a home or building by scanning for thermal heat loss, air infiltration or other air delivery related problems.

* Moisture: accurately detect moisture related problems located behind exterior and interior walls, in ceilings or under carpet covered floors.

* Mould remediation: control mould by finding undetected sources of moisture.

* Roofing surveys: detect wet areas in roofing systems quickly and efficiently.

Fluke SmartView Software is included with each thermal imager. SmartView software is a modular suite of tools for viewing, annotating, editing and analysing infrared images that fully supports Fluke IR Fusion technology. It enables users to edit images in five viewing modes and generate customised professional reports in a few steps. Fluke 3D-IR three-dimensional viewing makes hot or cold spots ‘pop out’ of the background for easy viewing and analysis.
