Local company exports steam desuperheater station
May 2001
News
Mitech has now exported its first pressure reducing and desuperheating station to an international sugar mill in Mozambique. The unit is designed to handle 60 t/h of superheated steam at 2,4 Mpa (24 bar) and 410°C, reducing the pressure to 100 kPa (1 bar) and the temperature to 180°C. Previously all the PRV+DS stations have been supplied for use in South Africa.
The pressure-reducing valve is a 200 mm 600# globe style valve with WCB carbon steel body. An energy dissipating disk stack is used for pressure reduction and noise control. Two diffuser plates are installed downstream of the valve to create backpressure to enable a smaller valve to be used than would otherwise be the case.
The desuperheater is a spillback type in which high-pressure water is fed directly to a nozzle, and the amount of water to be added to the steam is controlled by means of the backpressure in the return line. There are no moving parts in the nozzle making it long lasting and reliable.
All the products are 100% manufactured at Mitech's new factory in Randburg. Similar stations installed in local sugar mills have been giving good control at very low noise levels of less than 85 dBA - a fact that helped Mitech secure the export order.
