Weigh small quantities confidently

MinWeigh – when minimum weight is of major importance.

Measurement uncertainty is the quantification of the accuracy of a measurement device. Every weighing system has a minimum weight where measurement uncertainty is less than the required weighing tolerance. Mettler Toledo’s innovative new quality application, MinWeigh, revolutionises the concept of weighing, particularly when quality management systems demand adherence to specified tolerances, and when the minimum weight is of major importance.

In a quality management system like GLP or GMP or USP USP26-NF21, measurement uncertainty must be within specified limits. Many users weigh tiny quantities which means they use only between 1 and 10% of a balance’s weighing capacity. It is, however, in this range where the greatest relative measurement errors can occur.

MinWeigh assists the operator in determining the balance’s minimum acceptable weight to ensure the required weighing tolerances are achieved. MinWeigh records the minimum weight value allowed on a specific balance. If the weighing result is below the minimum weight, MinWeigh recognises the error and warns the operator by fading the balance display to grey and the results below the minimum weight are marked on the printout. As soon as the correct amount is added again, the displayed weight value changes to black. This function thus prevents any measurement uncertainties and unacceptable weighing results.

The MinWeigh application is delivered with every XP balance and needs to be activated by a Mettler Toledo service technician at the place where the balance is used. Within the guidelines of the quality assurance system, the technician determines the minimum weight with the best possible settings; the tare weight typically used and programs the balance software accordingly. The minimum weight depends on the repeatability of the balance, the environmental conditions and the specified quality tolerances. After programming the balance, the service technician issues a certificate showing the measurements and tolerances, as well as the corresponding tare and minimum weight values.
