Dehn celebrates 100 years
April 2010
News
Fascinated by the force of a ‘lightning strike’, Hans Dehn decided to specialise in lightning protection. Since the foundation of his company 100 years ago in Nuremberg, Germany, in January 1910, he was engaged both in the installation of electrical systems and in the installation of lightning protection systems. Early in 1920, Hans started manufacturing lightning protection and earthing equipment. Shortly afterwards, the product range was extended by safety equipment for the protection of persons installing and maintaining electrical systems.
After several decades of experience in external lightning protection, the family-orientated DEHN + SÖHNE realised that surge protection had become a necessity. The first generation of DEHN surge protective devices was introduced to the market during 1954. The first lightning current surge arrester entered the market in 1983: DEHNventil became a synonym worldwide for a new generation of surge arresters and allowed DEHN + SÖHNE to capture a leading position in the sector of surge protection.
Today, DEHN + SÖHNE is a worldwide leader in the field of lightning, surge protection and safety equipment. The company’s impulse current test laboratories are renowned worldwide, and over the years, DEHN has been successful in influencing national and international standardisation.
