Ultrasonic clamp-on flowmeters for the water industry.

On existing pipelines and large pipe diameters ultrasonic clamp-on flowmeters offer cost-effective alternatives to other flowmeter types. Due to the clamp-on mounting technique of the sensors, Katronic’s ultrasonic flowmeters can be easily installed and operated in the form of portable and fixed instrument versions.

When it comes to sewage, effluent and sludge it is good to know that technologies like contactless, non-invasive, non-intrusive and clamp-on exist. On a new treatment plant or pumping station the ever-present electromagnetic flowmeter could well be the obvious choice. However, on existing non-metered pipelines or locations where an inline meter has failed, a clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter such as the KATflow 150 is a simple choice.

Breaking into pipelines is costly, time-consuming and difficult. The only significant expense with a clamp-on unit is the purchase cost. Engineering work and down-time are not a factor as they are with more conventional metering solutions. Considering the size of many of the pipelines in the water industry, a fixed installed ultrasonic clamp-on flowmeter like the KATflow 150 could even be the most cost-effective solution. Meter Systems says it is not widely known that on pipes with diameters larger than 100 mm, a Katronic clamp-on flowmeter can be cheaper to buy and install than an equivalent mag-meter.

As well as permanently installed ultrasonic meters, the handheld KATflow 200 is also a valuable tool in the water industry. The meter can be used for numerous applications on both the clean and dirty side of the industry in pipes with diameters greater than 2000 mm.
