Energy efficiency showcased at Afriwater

August 2009 News

As the world tries to slow the doubling of global energy consumption by 2050, energy efficiency remains a leading area for innovation and technology and is due to take centre stage at this years’ Afriwater 2009 exhibition, from 8-10 September, with a number of exhibitors making use of the event to showcase their latest energy efficient innovations.

One such company is SEW Eurodrive displaying its range of individual drive components, each featuring a high level of energy efficiency, and when combined form the perfect energy saving drive solution.

Systems, which have not been optimised with respect to their energy consumption, can constitute up to 90% of the follow up costs of a plant, which shows that optimising the energy efficiency of each individual component and combining the drive technology to match the specific application will achieve a significant economic benefit.

BMG will also be highlighting the company’s energy efficient focus through a broad range of branded engineering components at the show, including condition monitoring equipment on a base mounted pump and a Fenner Motoline EFF1 energy efficient electric motor, with laser shaft alignment equipment attached.

Efficient sewage and effluent management is also expected to be an important topic at Afriwater 2009 as local municipalities battle to manage their sewage and effluent services, and there is a large need for the upgrading and maintenance of existing municipal infrastructure.

MultiTrodes’ two new versions of the SafeSmart Backup Controller reduce the risk of sewerage spills at wastewater lift stations. Most wastewater utilities do not have backup control installed, and when primary control fails they rely on manual intervention until the primary control system has been replaced, which could take days. The new SafeSmart controllers reduce the operational pressure on the organisation by providing an automatic backup system.

‘Renew, Regenerate, Refurbish’ is the theme for this year’s Afriwater 2009 and for the high profile co-located conference, hosted by the Water Institute of South Africa (WISA). The Water Institute of South Africa focuses on issues pertaining to processes of water and wastewater as well as the distribution of water and collection of water waste effluent. The Afriwater and WISA conference platform is a unique opportunity to bring professionals in the water industry together to discuss latest developments and solutions within this arena.

Another top-level conference that will be co-located at this year’s Afriwater 2009 is the International Pump User Conference. IPUC 2009 is the leading pump conference in South Africa and is relevant to all industries where pumps are the vital heart of their operation including mining, petrochemical, industrial, bulk water and wastewater industries.

In this two day conference, 18 papers of a high standard will be presented by leading international and local experts, who will share their wealth of knowledge and experience on pumping systems and present papers on tried and tested solutions, as well as effective problem solving techniques using the latest technologies.

IPUC will also be hosting an Energy Efficiency Forum where issues relating to energy efficiency will be debated in a one day forum, facilitated by a panel of experts and including relevant stakeholders from Government and from the local pump community, both manufacturers and users.

Afriwater is a focused standalone show that strongly supports the vision of WISA and the industry it serves, and the objectives of IPUC. It is the ideal platform for local and international exhibitors to showcase their latest products, services, innovations and developments.

Afriwater 2009, IPUC 2009 and the WISA 2009 Conference take place at the MTN Expo Centre, NASREC, from 8 -10 September.
