Yokogawa SA fights skills shortage

August 2009 Training & Education

Yokogawa, a major role player in the automation industry, offers tailor-made training courses to combat the skills shortage in the systems (DCS, PLC, scada, FF) and instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level and liquid analysis) fields of expertise. The company places particular emphasis on applications relevant to the mining industry segment. Yokogawa sees training as one of the added values that it offers to customers, and offers flexible training courses on the subjects.

The systems’ training courses range from workshops on the fundamentals of measurement and control, through computer-based operator training packages, to comprehensive 5-day courses on the configuration and optimisation of complete control and safety systems. These are standard courses but can be customised to meet user requirements.

All Yokogawa training course are assessment driven in order for participants to understand these different technologies both in theory and hands-on practical.

The training courses can be offered at three different venues:

1. At the Yokogawa Head office in Roodepoort – systems training and field instrumentation training.

2. At SABTI (South African Breweries Training Institute at Kyalami next to the Jukskei River) – field instrumentation training.

3. At customer sites – field instrumentation training.

Yokogawa has developed a qualification level matrix for the field instrumentation training consisting of basic product training, advanced product training and expert product training.
