Engen refinery installs first Equipment Health Management system in the region
April 2001
News
The Engen Refinery in Durban has installed the first Honeywell Equipment Health Management solution in the Europe, Africa and Middle East region. This leading-edge software is designed to monitor key assets in order to optimise maintenance procedures and reduce downtime in the plant.
To begin with, the EHM software is being implemented on 50 key assets. "The assets that have been selected by Engen are those that represent significant capital investment, certain assets that are critical to refinery operation and some of those that have been problematic," stated Elgonda la Grange of Honeywell Hi-Spec Solutions. This approach has been adopted to test the software across a broad spectrum of capital equipment, giving Engen accurate results and a clear indication of the success of EHM in the plant.
Honeywell Hi-Spec Solutions has customised the standard Honeywell EHM package to meet the specific needs of Engen's various assets. EHM will be integrated with Honeywell Uniformance and other condition monitoring systems in the plant. According to Honeywell Hi-Spec Solutions, in future, EHM would also be able to generate work orders through the Engen SAP system if required. Installation and commissioning of the system is due in the first quarter of 2001.
