For many products, authentication labelling with luminophores provides a cost effective means for product marking and the detection of pirate copies. The new luminescence scale from SICK provides a standard for testing and determining the quality of such markings. Reliable use of luminescence scanners in the field depends on detection reliability at different signal intensities. Testing in gradations of 10, 30, 50, 75, 100 and 200% constitutes a relative measurement between scale and test specimen, for example labels, package inserts, banderols, or an application of glue.

The stability of the luminophorous pigments permits the use of the scale as a long-term standard for the reflectivity of different luminescent markings. In serving this function, the luminescence scale provides an important accessory for marking with luminophores and their detection by means of luminescence scanners: the scale allows testing of luminescent marking quality.
