Honeywell chooses SA candidate

Devon Clack, a chemical engineering student from the University of Pretoria has been named runner-up in the Honeywell Users Group International UniSim Student Competition, and will travel to Berlin shortly to present a paper on his entry and to attend various presentations by Honeywell at the annual Honeywell EMEA Users Group conference.
Devon Clack
Devon entered the competition to gauge the calibre of his work against that of other international engineering students. He developed a dynamic simulation of a Lurgi gasifier in UniSim Design, which he considered an innovative use of process simulation.
Devon said, “I am excited at having been nominated runner-up in this competition and look forward to the Honeywell EMEA conference in Berlin as an opportunity to learn more about the possibilities of modelling and process simulation and its applications in the chemical engineering field. I will be presenting my method for improving the performance of dynamic simulations, which involves the use of three interlinked software packages, namely UniSim Design, Microsoft Excel and Matlab.
“I am in the final year of my chemical engineering degree studies and have been a Honeywell bursar for the past two years. I look forward to playing my part in the process modellings and control field when I enter the industry next year and look forward to joining Honeywell, who have given me tremendous support and offer me great career opportunities as a young engineer both locally and internationally.”
