Cube Technologies
This project entailed the automation of new sugar refining equipment at the United Sugar Company of Saudi Arabia eg, conveyors, evaporators and a vertical continuous pan. The turnkey project included the installation of a pair of redundant PCS 7 OS servers, a central archive server (CAS), four OS clients, two engineering stations, three 417-4H automation systems, Profibus DP and PA networks and AS-I bus. There was very limited conventional I/O and the field devices were both from Siemens and other vendors.

Multiproject engineering was used to configure the plant. A customised PCS 7 block library was created for the customer. The customised software interfaces to variable speed drives and the Siemens NAHMAT Pan boiling software. PDM was used to configure all the Profibus field equipment and Swicth ES/DriveES was used for the configuring the Simocode protection relays and Micromaster drives. A redundant OPC link was used to interface to the legacy Siemens ORSI system on site to bring variables across to the PCS 7 OS stations.
The project took approximately 12 months to execute with elaborate upfront detailed design and planning.
