30 years of water treatment

October 2008 News

For over 30 years, chemical dosing equipment specialist Klomac has been servicing the South African water treatment industry. Last year, Klomac became a division of the Gauteng-based water-engineering firm, Thuthuka Group. General manager Marius van den Berg says, “The time has come to reposition Klomac in order to better service our existing and new markets. The company is growing and evolving, as is our industry, and we want to build on our established reputation for being a top service provider in the potable, sewage and industrial water treatment sectors.”

Markets and offerings

Klomac services a wide range of industries, including: mining; power generation plants; independent power providers; municipal councils; waste water treatment plants; potable water treatment plants and consulting engineers. Van den Berg adds, “Each industry has its own set of requirements that determines its treatment needs, from process water to wastewater.”

For instance, Klomac assists municipal councils and water utilities countrywide to provide safe drinking water to their communities. Their service offering includes: conventional water filtration equipment; membrane filtration plant technology; on-site electrolytic chlorination (OSEC); UV disinfection; chlorination – both gas and liquid; operator training and certification; equipment maintenance and service contracts; and consulting services to potable and waste water plants. The company also supplies metered dosing pumps and other specialised equipment to almost all of the current Eskom power plants in operation.

Association with Siemens

Positioned to provide technical knowledge, high quality equipment and hands-on services to scope and install the right equipment in water treatment plants, Klomac is the official southern African agent for the full range of Siemens Wallace & Tiernan water treatment and chemical dosing equipment and has a national presence to provide backup and support services.

Klomac is also able to provide cost effective water treatment solutions to industrial organisations. Van den Berg says, “Siemens Water Technologies serves more than 90% of the Fortune 500 manufacturing companies worldwide, including approximately 100 000 industrial customers. Through our association with Siemens, we can provide all the related services to help industry and manufacturers to meet their specific water quality requirements to ensure consistent processes and production.”

Present contracts are being undertaken with Rand Water, Eskom Holdings, D.W.A.F., Water Utilities Corporation in Botswana, as well as with numerous local municipalities and as sub contractors to large turnkey contractors specialising in the complete water treatment plant sector. Klomac is also ideally positioned to enter into long-term maintenance and service contracts to support the current lack of skills experienced by service providers across all sectors of the water treatment industry.
