Competition came from an illustrious selection of ambitious lighting projects from all over Europe. With its 73 000 lighting points controlled via the Dali bus, Calle 30 is one of many major loops circling the town centre of Madrid. This traffic artery, with up to 10 lanes in places, was completely renewed and some sections rerouted between 2004 and 2007. Around 55 km of the 99 km roadway is underground and the lighting is continuously adapted to match the current traffic situation. This enables the operators to achieve maximum safety while simultaneously saving energy. Maintenance costs are also reduced as faults and failures can be pinpointed with extreme accuracy.
Linking of the lighting and the escape route signs is accomplished using more than 1360 separate Dali bus sections, which, in turn, are implemented using WAGO Ethernet controllers and WAGO Dali masters. The modular design of the WAGO hardware met all the demands for implementing a flexible, reliable and individually tailored lighting solution. WAGO components were used in this innovative concept that ultimately won approval from the judges.
