Adroit tutors new engineers
October 2008
News
The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University is in the process of being supplied with Adroit Technologies’ proudly South African scada system, popularly known as Adroit in the automation and telemetry fraternities.
The mechatronics laboratories currently utilise an average of 32 PC workstations where students carry out a vast array of tasks assigned to them in the course of their studies. Soon scada projects using Adroit will be part and parcel of the requirements and the students will have gained experience on the system prior to graduation.
A separate, independent, Adroit server is currently being installed on each workstation in one of the PC labs. Here the students will be able to create their own scada applications, and even to link to each other’s projects to share tags. The very latest version of Adroit, Version 7, is going in, which will allow students to be well grounded in intelligent alarming of a manufacturing process.
Grant Phillips, and Khotso Majara, both lecturers in the University’s Electrical Engineering Faculty, have been very pro-active in bringing this about, as they see the value in training the next generation on tools which are extensively used out in industry. The feedback they have is that Adroit is in demand, and they want to ensure that all their students are able to hit the ground running when they enter the real manufacturing world.
