Obituary - Alan Wynn: 1958-2008
October 2008
News
The instrumentation and control community of southern Africa lost one of its most highly respected leaders on Saturday, 30 August, with the sudden death from heart failure of Alan Wynn, MD of Vega Instruments SA.
Alan Wynn
Twenty-five years ago Alan started work at Vega Controls UK. After some years he moved with his wife Julie to the USA, where he introduced the Vega range of instruments to the American market through OhmartVega. In 1997 Alan and Julie moved to South Africa, where they started Vega Instruments SA.
Starting with a small staff complement of five, Alan built the company up to become one of the major players in the instrumentation and control industry. With Julie as financial director, Alan developed Vega Instruments into one of the leaders in level and pressure instrumentation in southern Africa.
Alan was passionate in all things he tackled. Aside from the business, he was a dedicated scuba diver, attaining his Dive Master’s instructor qualification. He was an avid supporter of Shark Life, the organisation formed to protect sharks from human destruction. Alan was also a keen bike rider and always had so much joy out of riding the open roads on his latest bike.
Alan was a highly respected industry icon and was a mentor and role model for many who knew him and had the privilege of working with him. He will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched.
Alan leaves behind his wife Julie, his children Lee and Annika and his grandchildren Lewis, four and Charlotte, one.
