The first German plant for producing synthetic bio-fuel from biomass (BTL – Biomass to Liquide) started operation in Feiburg in June this year. In the presence of the Saxon minister president Milbradt as well as representatives from Shell, Daimler and Volkswagen the German chancellor Angelika Merkel pointed out the significance of the plant in regard to the protection of the environment.
The patented Carbo-V process allows the production of bio coke from biological waste, sewage sludge or rotten wood, which is gasified and converted into pure Sun-Fuel.
In the years 1998 to 2001 the efficiency and environmental compatibility of the process was proved in a pilot plant where ARCA supplied the valves. The compact ARCA valves proved their reliability and in the new plant more than 120 ARCA control valves have been deployed.
The plant is scheduled to deliver 18 million litres of BTL every year. BTL, in contrast to fossil diesel, causes 90% less CO2 output and can be used in vehicles without adjustment measures.
