Manual programming device for motor protection relays

March 2001 Motion Control & Drives

Rockwell Automation is offering a powerful and intelligent manual programming device, intended for use with Allen-Bradley MCS-E3 and MCS-E3 Plus electronic motor protection relays. With the help of this light terminal, weighing only 200 g, the parameters of all protection and control functions for the MCS-E3 relay can be conveniently programmed on site. The 193-PCT also serves as a device for detecting motor and earthing fault currents as well as the motor's thermal load.

The device provides direct and quick access to all the MCS-E3 and MCS-E3 Plus electronic motor protection relays' protection, control and display functions - without the need for computer and network. The terminal is particularly useful for applications that do not have a fieldbus.

The PCT is also a very useful display mechanism in the network, as it can select nodes and check individual motor data within seconds. In case of a network failure, the PCT can also carry out starting and stopping functions.

Saving data saves time

In saving mode, the PCT can read in MCS-E3 relay parameters as required. These can then be loaded conveniently into further MCS-E3 motor protection relays. This helps to save a great deal of time when programming larger systems which contain several motor protection relays with the same configuration.

Also offered is a door mounting plate for the PCT. This means, for example, that the device can be fitted to the front of an electrical cabinet, thus allowing the attached motor protection relay to be operated and controlled without having to open the door.
