Mini modular terminals with cage clamp
March 2001
Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors
The WAGO series 261 through-connection terminal blocks from Hellermann Tyton incorporate two cage clamps on a common copper connecting bar. The cage clamp can be opened to receive the wire in the normal way with a small screwdriver, or the blocks can be provided with pushbutton actuators on one or both sides so that connections can be made or removed, without the need for tools. This is particularly useful for applications requiring temporary connections such as for test bench supplies, portable test equipment etc.
The WAGO 261 through-connection terminal block with cage clamp
Only 6 mm wide, the 261 blocks are designed for 2,5 mm2 cables and rated at 24 A 500 V, with a withstand voltage of 6 kV. A hole in the centre of the block provides access for a test plug.
There are several methods of mounting the modular connectors. The blocks can be clicked together and fitted with end fixing flanges so that the complete assembly of several blocks can be screw-mounted directly to a panel. Alternatively, mounting adapters are available so that the complete assembly can be clipped on to a standard DIN 35 rail. The 235 series, in the same vein, is designed for mounting directly on to a PCB. The series incorporates two solder pins, a test slot, and one cage clamp terminal complete with pushbutton actuator.
Marker receptacles are provided for the miniature WSB-Quick marketing system.
The inherent design of the cage clamp makes it resistant to changes in temperature. It ensures that contact pressure is maintained irrespective of outside influences such as vibration, operating conditions, temperature changes, shock or corrosion. Because loose connection and conductor damage is non-existent, the risk of costly downtime is therefore considerably reduced. Pressure with a screwdriver in the terminal release hole gains entry for the cable which can be solid, stranded or flexible. The conductors require no special preparation.
